     Captain Henry J. ("Harry") Jeffries Davis was born on 21 November 1879 at Grimley Village, Worcs; known as Harry, he joined HMS Worcester as a cadet in Jan. 1895, graduating first class in December 1896. He and his wife Gladys had two sons, Philip and Jack. Philip died from meningitis as a boy and Jack was disowned by his father for reasons unknown. "We have completely lost contact with this branch of the family", wrote Bruce Coates. He was the son of John Jeffries Davis and Catherine ("Kate") Freer. Captain Henry J. ("Harry") Jeffries Davis appeared in the household of John Jeffries Davis in the 1881 census at Grimley, Holt, Worcs.. Captain Henry J. ("Harry") Jeffries Davis married Gladys Hooper circa 1899. Captain Henry J. ("Harry") Jeffries Davis was a Captain in the Merchant Navy, "my ideal of shipmasters", according to Capt. Leslie F. Banyard. A lady said of his voice, "It's like an organ with a bit of a lisp and it has an effect on women like a blow-torch." between 1913 and 1939. He was Assistant (later General) Marine Superintendant for Furness Lines in New York between 1939 and 1947. He was living in Bermuda following his retirement in 1947. He died on 24 January 1963 at New York at age 83.

He married Elizabeth Cranstoun in 1891; twenty years after they had become engaged. William ("Will") Samuel Davis appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Stanbrook House, Burford; (Head, William S. Davis, a solicitor aged 53, with his wife Elizabeth, 50, and his brother Edward P Davis, 49, an ironmaster/employer, together with a cook and a housemaid). He was Executor on 5 February 1903 at acted as executor of his mother's will. He left a will; made on 12th May 1927 at Burford. He was a solicitor on 12 May 1927. He was last ref. to him as a solr. in 1929 Law List - with Redpath Marshall & Co (NB The firm subsequently became Davis & Ashley, and were t/o by Talbots.) in 1928 at Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, England. He died on 14 December 1928 at Stanbrook House at age 81; without issue, and buried in Burford Churchyard under a red marble tombstone.

     Fanny Child "an exceedingly difficult woman." She was born in 1855 at Leintwardine, Hereford. She was the daughter of William Child Jr. and Eliza Turner. Fanny Child married Peter Davis, son of William Davis Sr. and Martha Child, before 4 April 1881; as they are shown as married in the census return for Dean Park, Burford. As of before 4 April 1881,her married name was Davis. Fanny Davis appeared in the household of Peter Davis in the 1881 census at Dean Park, Burford, Shropshire. Fanny Child died on 4 August 1941; "aged 84" (!) according to the stone in Burford Churchyard marking her husband's grave: she was, it is there said, buried in Hove.

     Lucinda Buckingham was born on 25 March 1810 at Burrington, Devon. She was the daughter of The Rev. James Buckingham and Mary (?). Lucinda Buckingham married The Rev. Samuel Davis, son of Samuel Davis Sr. and Elizabeth Reynolds, on 16 June 1836 at Burrington, Devon; "Before his marriage, he met all three of his future wives on the same day," according to Great-nephew RL Davis. (cf Barchester Towers: 'Indeed it was hard to say which was the old love and which was the new, Mr Slope having been smitten with both [Mrs Bold and Signora Neroni] so nearly at the same time.'). Her married name was Davis. Lucinda Davis was a witness when Peter Davis was recording in his diary: "Take Tea at Burford along with Sam and his bride, a truly affectionate and estimable person." on 12 August 1836. Lucinda Davis appeared in the household of The Rev. James Buckingham in the 1851 census at The Vicarage, Burrington, Devon. Lucinda Buckingham died on 30 July 1855 at Burrington at age 45.

She was buried on 27 April 1815 at Burford.

Thomas Child died after 27 October 1853.

     Dr. John Mitchell was born in 1782. He was employed by he enrolled as a pupil to Mr Birch in Mansel Street, Goodmans Field, Surgeon, for 12 months on 5 October 1803 at Guy's Hospital. He married Mary Anne Meredith, daughter of John Meredith and Mary James, on 8 January 1807 at Kington, Herefordshire. Dr. John Mitchell died on 21 November 1841.

     John Meredith was born before 19 November 1758 at Kington; (presumably). He was baptized on 19 November 1758 at Kington. He was the son of Bridgewater Meredith. John Meredith was an ironmonger, inheriting his uncle Richard's business upon his death: he also inherited his father's woolstapling business in 1786, and ran a successful cloth business. The ironmongery made nails: Sunset Foundry was bought and built about 1820: a waterwheel on the Back Brook drove bellows, hammers etc. John was joined by his sons, John Jr. and James. In due course, local citizens became proud to be buried in nails, rather than wool. in 1779 at Kington. He married Mary James, daughter of Gwynne James, on 16 June 1785 at Kington. John Meredith died in 1823 at Kington; "The national school for girls and infants [in Kington] - situated on the North side of the Common close - was built in 1836... on a site of land given by the late John Meredith Esq." "1-5 Crooked Well (2-bedroom cottages) were built by Mr Meredith early in the Century for workmen."

Henry Meredith witnessed the baptism of John Meredith on 5 April 1835 at Lower Cross, Kington; father described as Ironmonger. Henry Meredith witnessed the baptism of Henry Frederick Meredith on 7 September 1836 at Lower Cross, Kington; father described as Ironmonger. Henry Meredith witnessed the baptism of Sarah Jane Meredith on 3 February 1839 at Lower Cross, Kington; father described as Ironmonger. Henry Meredith witnessed the baptism of James Meredith on 12 June 1840 at Lower Cross, Kington; father described as Ironmonger. Henry Meredith witnessed the marriage of Peter Davis and Jane Jeffries on 30 January 1845 at Parish Church, Pembridge; by licence; the officiating minister being The Rev. William Lee, the bride's uncle by marriage, and the witnesses mostly being relations of the bride - her father's sister Mary Anne; her brother EJJ, and her mother's brothers John & Henry, brother-in-law John Morgan, and nieces Anna Maria Mitchell and Mary Ann Morgan - plus two called William and Jane, surnames illegible. The licence (dated 20 Jan. 45) says the groom was 33 and the bride 19, both of Pembridge parish, the bride's mother (a widow) consenting to the match. Henry Meredith witnessed "Mr Meredith had 120 workers." This detail appears in Memories of Kington, by W. Edwards, published by the Kington History Society in 1997. But it's not clear to which Mr Meredith it refers. circa 1860. He appeared in the 1861 census at High Street, Kington. He witnessed the marriage of William Tipping and Elizabeth ("Bessie") Jeffries on 27 November 1862 at Stoke North, Guildford; The groom, aged 37, a bachelor, farmer, of "Bedford" (sic - for "Bidford"), Warwick, son of Wm T, farmer; and the bride, 31, a spinster, no occupation, of Stoke, daughter of Thos J, Gent., married by The Rev. Ellis Lee in the presence of John Tipping, and Henry and Sarah Jane Meredith. Henry Meredith died on 21 August 1865 at age 64; Peter Davis (but not Jane) attended his funeral.

     James Mitchell was born in 1819 at Kington, Herefordshire. He was the son of Dr. John Mitchell and Mary Anne Meredith. James Mitchell was an investor in the business of Thos. Penn & Co, fancy paper manufacturers, and in 1855 was responsible for the name changing to J & W Mitchell. in 1840 at 461 Coventry Road, Birmingham. He married Mary Anne Morgan, daughter of John Morgan III of Tir Uched and Winifred Meredith, on 8 February 1849. James Mitchell appeared in the 1851 census at Coventry Road, Aston, Birmingham. He lived in 1855 at 61 Green Lane, Birmingham; "a paper manufacturer." He was employed by "James and William Mitchell manufacturers of coloured marble, foil papers, card and pasteboards etc." in 1855 at 466 Coventry Road, Birmingham. He appeared in the 1861 census at Moseley Road, King's Norton, Worcestershire. He appeared in the 1871 census at Moseley Road, King's Norton, Worcestershire; (Head: James Mitchell, 51,manufacturer/landowner, his wife Mary A. 44, his sons John, 21, and William, 19, his daughters Grace W. 17, Constance M. 15, Blanche E. 13 and Marian E. 10 and son Douglas 8 and daughter Alice M. 7; a governess, cook, nurse, parlourmaid and 2 housemaids). He died in 1876.
