He was Governor of the Mass. Bay Colony on a number of occasions in 1631. He died on 31 July 1653 at age 76.

Eliza Davis was a witness when Peter Davis was recording in his diary: "Fine day. Sunday. Eliza & I dine with Father at Burford." on 19 June 1836. Her married name was Trumper. Eliza Davis married William Trumper, son of John Trumper and Katharine Price, on 9 August 1836 at Nash Chapel, Burford; mentioned in Peter Davis's diary: "Eliza and Mr Trumper are married at the Nash Chapel." Eliza Trumper appeared in the household of Peter Davis in the 1841 census at The Lodge, Broncroft Farm, Diddlebury, Shropshire. As of between 1 April 1842 and 30 June 1842,her married name was Corser. Eliza Davis married John Corser, son of Richard Corser and Elizabeth (?), between 1 April 1842 and 30 June 1842 at Presteigne, Herefordshire. Eliza Corser appeared in the household of John Corser in the 1851 census at Moor House, Shipton, Shropshire.      William Trumper was Gentleman. He was baptized on 12 April 1801 at Orleton. He was the son of John Trumper and Katharine Price. William Trumper married Eliza Davis, daughter of Samuel Davis Sr. and Elizabeth Reynolds, on 9 August 1836 at Nash Chapel, Burford; mentioned in Peter Davis's diary: "Eliza and Mr Trumper are married at the Nash Chapel." William Trumper left a will on 13 October 1838; all to "my dear wife" Eliza, William Davis to be executor: witnesses (inter al.) Mary Sayer of Boraston and James Cooke, surgeon. He died before 18 October 1838. He was buried on 18 October 1838 at Orleton, Herefordshire; aged 37. His estate was probated on 22 November 1838; Letters of administration with will annexed granted to Matthias Trumper.

     William Davis Sr. was born on 6 October 1805 at Nash, Burford, Shropshire. He was the son of Samuel Davis Sr. and Elizabeth Reynolds. William Davis Sr. was christened on 13 October 1805 at Burford, Salop; IGI for his baptism says that father's name was "James", not Samuel!! He witnessed the marriage of William Trumper and Eliza Davis on 9 August 1836 at Nash Chapel, Burford; mentioned in Peter Davis's diary: "Eliza and Mr Trumper are married at the Nash Chapel." William Davis Sr. witnessed the burial of Samuel Davis Sr. on 2 September 1837 at Burford; "In memory of Samuel Davis who died 30 August 1837 aged 69 years", it says on his gravestone in Burford churchyard (near to the S-E end of the church) "Slight storms. AM. Fine afternoon. The funeral day of my poor dear Father. The chief mourners, my brothers..William & Saml , Mrs Trumper and myself. The Pallbearers, eight in number, viz. Mr Wm Reynolds, Mr Partridge, Mr B Edwards, Mr E Edwards, Mr B Giles, Mr C Williams, Mr J Nott of Eastham & Mr Wm Mytton of Deptcroft. The underbearers 6 of the workmen viz. Thos Phillips, James Porton, John Dewis??, John Jones, Wm Bayliss & Thos Peade??. Mr Rushout & Mr Rodwell , the clergymen. The former performed the burial service. Also present Mr H Davis, the surgeon, & Mr Anderson, the Attorney who prepared the will, Morgan the coffinmaker, Mills the tomb builder. The pallbearers wore hatbands and scarfs. The workmen hatbands and gloves took 5/ each in money. All the rest of workmen at Park, Nash and Burford who were not bearers gloves and 5/ each in money. Mr Russell the undertaker. On returning home Mr Anderson read the will. Only Saml & Aunt Partridge stay dinner with me. The Executors, my two brothers and myself. The trustee for my sister Mr Wm Reynolds. All passes off in the greatest and pleasantest manner possible and may the Lord have mercy on the soul of the departed. A better Father, a better husband or a more upright and honest man never was in existence." William Davis Sr. witnessed the probate of the estate of Samuel Davis Sr. after 6 September 1837; Probate of their father's will was granted to Wm, Samuel (Junior) and Peter Davis - personal effects under £2000. William Davis Sr.appeared in the 1841 census at Dean Park, Burford, Shropshire. He married Martha Child, daughter of William Child Sr. and Beatrice Prince, between 1 January 1844 and 31 March 1844. William Davis Sr. appeared in the 1851 census at Dean Park, Burford, Shropshire. He appeared in the 1861 census at Dean Park, Burford, Shropshire. He was living on 2 September 1861. He appeared in the 1871 census at Dean Park, Burford, Shropshire; William Davis, 65, farmer of 487 acres, b. Burford, employing 13 labourers and 4 boys; together with wife Martha aged 51, b. Middleton, and sons Wm. Sam., 23, solicitor, and Peter, 20, farmer's son - both born Burford; and 3 servants. He was (an unknown value) in 1876 at a principal landowner in Kingsland parish. He appeared in the 1881 census at Stanbrook House, Burford, Shropshire; (Head: William Davis retired farmer 75, his wife Martha 61, their son William S. solicitor 34 and William's nieces Mary Corser 38 and Alice J Davis 23 - and 3 servants). He died on 16 July 1888 at Stanbrook, "late of Dean Park", at age 82; described in the grant of probate of his will as "a Gentleman", he died of bladder disease and exhaustion. He was buried at the Churchyard, Burford.

     John Pickering was born on 20 November 1820 at Etruria, Staffordshire; son of WILLIAM P. and BETSY HULME P. but no sign of any marriage in Staffs between these two in IGI. He was born on 25 November 1820 at Etruria, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. He was the son of James Pickerill and Jane Hulme. John Pickering was christened on 3 December 1820 at St. Giles', Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. Heappeared in the 1841 census at Upper Green, Newcastle-under-Lyme. He lived on 30 August 1846 at 1 Nelson St. South, Birmingham; a tallow chandler. He married Frances Williams on 30 August 1846 at Bishop Ryder's C of E, Gem St., Gosta Green, B'ham Warwks; This was a C of E church demolished in the 60s when they built Aston University - Gem Street, Gosta Green. John Pickering appeared in the 1851 census at 24a Fordrough St., Birmingham. He appeared in the 1861 census at 80 Pershore Street, Birmingham. He appeared in the 1871 census at Park Hill, Moseley, Birmingham; (Head: John Pickering 50, tallow chandler, his wife Frances 42, and their 8 children, all unmarried, Mary 23, Frances 22, Henry 20, assistant tallow chandler, Ada M. 18, Frederick 16, also assistant tallow chandler, John 14, Florence C. 4 and William E. 3 - with one servant). He appeared in the 1881 census at Park Hill, King's Norton, Worcs; John PICKERING "a soap and candle maker" aged 60, b N'castle, Stf, head, with wife and 5 chn, and 1 servant. He appeared in the 1891 census at 22 Park Hill, King's Norton, Worcestershire; head of household, b N'castle, Staffs; soap and candle [illegible], employer aged 70 - NB wife, 4 chn., and 1 servant also in the household. He was soap manufacturer, retired, as per his wife's death certificate on 10 June 1895 at Park Hill, Moseley, Kings Norton. He died on 13 January 1900 at King's Norton at age 79.

     Eliza J. Davis Eliza Davis was educated at private school and obtained her BA at London in 1897, and her MA in 1913. She went into teaching in 1898, being appointed Assistant Mistress at Bedford High School. She then moved on to Stepney Pupil Teachers' School in 1904 until 1908. From 1908 to 1912 she was Lecturer and Vice-Principal at Moorfields London County Council Training College. Then in 1914 she was appointed as a Research Assistant in the Department of History at University College London; in 1919 becoming Lecturer in the Sources of English History. In 1921 Davis moved to the University of London to become Reader in the History and Records of London; a post she held till 1940. She was Honorary Secretary to the Editorial Board of History from 1916 to 1922, and Editor from 1922 to 1934. She was also Honorary Librarian at the Institute of Historical Research from 1921 to 1923 and Acting Secretary from 1939 to 1940. She published some historical articles. She died in October 1943. She was born on 11 February 1875 at Grimley Village, Worcs.. She was the daughter of John Jeffries Davis and Catherine ("Kate") Freer. Eliza J. Davis appeared in the household of John Jeffries Davis in the 1881 census at Grimley, Holt, Worcs.. Eliza J. Davis was an historian after 1895 at London University. She died on 30 October 1943 at age 68; suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis.
