Sarah Ann Gateley was baptized on 20 December 1825 at St. Chad's, Birmingham; Godparents: James Stone and Sarah Ann Southam. As of between 1 July 1840 and 30 September 1840,her married name was Hand. She witnessed the marriage of Benjamin Bourne and Ann Gateley on 12 October 1844 at St. Philip's Church, Birmingham; (the groom's occupation was plater, and he lived in Sheep Street, Birmingham, the bride living in Lichfield Street: the marriage was witnessed by Sarah and William Hand).

He was his daughter's marriage certificate says he had been a carpenter (though it does not say he was then dead) on 12 October 1844.

He married Elizabeth Adcock on 28 January 1833 at St Philip's, Birmingham.
