Charles Francis Rowley Lascelles was an Ensign in the Grenadiers: "There were two packs of hounds at St Jean de Luz; one kept by Lord Wellington,
the other by Marsden, of the Commissariat: our officers went uncommonly
straight. Perhaps our best man across country (though sometimes somewhat
against his will) was the late Colonel Lascelles of my regiment, then,
like myself, a mere lad. He rode a horse seventeen hands high, called
Bucephalus, which invariably ran away with him, and more than once had
nearly capsized Lord Wellington. The good living at St Jean de Luz
agreed so well with my friend that he waxed fat, and from that period
to his death was known to the world by the jovial appellation of Bacchus
Lascelles." - Captain Gronow's Memoirs. He was born on 27 March 1796 at Clarges Street, Piccadilly. He was the son of Rowley Lascelles and Elizabeth Gould Morgan. Charles Francis Rowley Lascelles witnessed the codicil of Rowley Lascelles on 18 April 1842 at Upper Grosvenor Street; appointed Henry 3rd Earl of Harewood as executor, 2nd Earl having died; and son-in-law added as beneficiary, the others all still being then living.

John Bushby
M, d. 1802
John Bushby A Dumfries lawyer, and, according to the Edinburgh Almanac of 1799, sheriff elect of Dumfries. He factored several estates and was owner of a private bank. A North of England man who retained something of his North Country dialect he made two prosperous marriages and bought Tinwald Downs, a country mansion near Dumfries. We know little of the relationship between Bushby and Burns. Tradition has it that the two men were friendly at one time but quarrelled when Burns was scalded by a very hot pudding, which Bushby had humorously claimed was ice cold. The poet thereafter lashed out satirically at Bushby and his relations, notably in the ballad 'John Bushby's Lamentation' and in the 'Epitaph': "Here lies John Bushby, honest man! Cheat him, devil — if you can." Robert Burns. He The hopeful youth, in Scottish senate bred,
Who owns a Bushby's heart without the head,
Comes 'mid a string of coxcombs, to display
That veni, vidi, vici, is his way: - Robert Burns, from Epistle From Esopus To Maria
in 1794. He And there will be Wigton's new Sheriff;
Dame Justice fu' brawly has sped,
She's gotten the heart of a Bushby,
But, Lord! what's become o' the head? - Robert Burns, from Ballads on Mr. Heron's Election, 1795
in 1795. He died in 1802; 'Heard you of old Bushby's dream the penult night of his life? When he thought he had fallen into a deep pit and after many efforts, got thro a gate which precipitated him lower and lower, till he awakened and behold it was a hideous Phantasma; and after eating a Dives dinner he breathed his last "unhouselled unanointed, unaneeled"*; not more than well prepared for his great change. He was one of the few men who could lead counties by the nose with the mask of honesty; to him bankruptcy proved the road to wealth and luxury.' * Ramsay misquotes Shakespeare's 'unhousel'd, disappointed, unaneal'd', Hamlet I.v.
