The first of three notices pinned up in the porch of the church at Saint-Antoine: :

"I will walk - under the oppressive sun, in pouring rain and through the storm. Whilst walking, the sun will dissolve the hardness of my heart; the rain will create a garden out of my desires. In wearing down my shoes, I will wear down my old habits. I will step out and my step will be a thought process. I will not so much progress to the end of the road as to test my own limits. I will be a pilgrim. I will not just depart on a journey. I will myself become a journey, a pilgrimage."
