Louis 1st of Amboise, Bishop of Albi (who commissioned the group of sculptures for - originally - the chapel of the château de Combefa, the bishop's Summer residence near Monestiés). In 1774, the people of Monestiés rescued the statues from the château (abandoned 12 years previously and fallen into ruin), arranging for them, each weighing 350 Kg, to be transported down to the village on 14 ox wagons.
