Pilgrims to Throni have tied favours to the bushes surrounding the chapel. A covered icon of the Virgin - no individual has cast eyes on it since the 16th Century - is kept at Kykko Monastery nearby, said to have been painted by St. Luke. The icon is carried in procession to Throni in times of drought, and there exposed to the heavens. (It is said to do the trick.) Wednesday 16th February 2005
